Triple Eight Race Engineering (Triple Eight) today announced their plans to develop their business into the sport of rallying with the launch of a turbo diesel powered Vauxhall Astra, the Astra RallyD.

Based on the FIA homologated Astra Sport Hatch 1.9 CDTi, the RallyD is designed to Group N regulations with a 200hp - 440Nm diesel powered engine. The project has the support of both Vauxhall and Opel and, in line with their environmental considerations the RallyD is very fuel-efficient and fitted with an exhaust particle filter to keep emissions low.

The first two RallyDs are currently being built at Triple Eight's Banbury headquarters for the launch partner Thurlby Motors who is also helping the development process. The 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship has launched the new Diesel Cup last month for which the RallyD is eligible.

Commenting on the launch, Triple Eight Managing Director, Ian Harrison said:

"This is an extremely exciting new venture for us at a time when rallying, and alternative fuelled Motorsport in general, is showing strong growth. We have a proven heritage in designing, building and racing winning cars and it is this experience that we are now applying to the world of rallying."

Stuart Harris of Vauxhall Motors added:

"Whilst not a works Vauxhall programme, we fully support this independent venture into Rallying with the Astra Sport Hatch Diesel at an exciting time for Diesel and alternative fuel vehicles"

Triple Eight team boss Ian Harrison has said that he is confident that their new Diesel powered-Vauxhall Astra RallyD will be a strong package in 2007.

Speaking to Crash.net Radio recently Harrison added that while it is an independent project and won't be directly backed by Vauxhall, they will get some 'support' in terms of developing the car, which will be eligible to compete in the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship, in the new Diesel Cup.

"The Rally D is an independently sanctioned thing," he explained. "Thurlby Motors, who we did some diesel road cars for this year, approached us with the idea and then we got verbal approval from Vauxhall.

"They aren't involved in terms of funding but do support it as it is their product and is good for their brand. If they didn't want us to do or didn't want to see a car out there then we wouldn't do it - simple as that. Vauxhall are our customer and a partner so we do what they want us to do. They are keen for us to do this project and why not?

"I think it will be good and there is the British Rally Championship class for us to compete in and I think we will be quick. We aren't that experienced with rallying but I believe we can build a good car at Group N level. We have some good parts going onto it and I think it was will be a good car."

Asked why they opted to make it a diesel car, Harrison noted that the decision was taken after discussions between Triple Eight Engineering and Thurlby Motors: "It was joint thing. Thurlby are very close friends of ours and Richard Walsh, the chairman, is a real enthusiast who loves his motorsport," continued Harrison. "He knows more about rallying than we do and asked about a petrol or a diesel and obviously the diesel is easier to work with in terms of being able to develop the engine cheaply, electronically you can do more to it and see more instant results than you can with a petrol engine.

"We have the previous experience with the road car and it has the same engine in it so this thing will have 200 horsepower and buckets of torque which I'm told is what you want. He [Richard Walsh] understands the marketplace so it was instigated by them and then technically driven by us and that it how it has worked with Thurlby over the years. It is something we are very excited about."

As for when the car will be out in action, testing should begin in two months time, something that will give them plenty of time to iron out any issues, before the opening event, the Pirelli International Rally, at the end of April.

"March is the launch date for the Astra RallyD - and all things being equal it should be out testing on somewhere like Sweet Lamb around that time," he concluded.

nem nem, a középre húzott kipuff csakis a széria OPC-k kiváltsága, az nem jár az OPC lájnhoz.

én mondjuk Arden kéket vettem volna (meg is rendeletem anno :huh:), aztán ez lett belőle. de jó ez így. remélem Lájonhárt rá tudja beszélni a skacot (apókát, kitugggya :lol:) hogy lépjen be közénk!

Sziasztok nagy gondom van.Van egy astra GTCm eltört benne a váltó.A Kocsim 1.9 diesel 150 le ha esetleg valaki tud bontott váltót megköszönném.Tel:06-70-511-0340 Előre is köszönöm a segitséget!

Váltokodot tudsz mondani! mert én németoban találtam egy F40 es váltot igaz vectrac ben volt de szerintem ugyan az a válto van astrában is.

Holnap szedik le a kocsiról utána tudom megmondani.Ha gondolod adj egy számot és felhivlak ha megtudtam.Szerintem is mindegy csak 1.9 diesel az számit,aztán ki tudja.
